The first model equipped with Opera TV solutions is the Skyworth 39E36. It will be available in Latin America from Q2 2014 and soon after to other regions.
To win the hearts of Smart TV viewers in Latin America, Skyworth 39E36 will feature a variety of local TV channels and online content customized for TV screens through the HTML5-based Opera TV Store, including Abril (Info and Quatro Rodas), TeleSUR, CNN Expansión and more.
“The future of TV will be built on open web standards. More and more developers are launching HTML5-based TV apps to offer a seamless interactive experience,” says Sun Weizhong, VP of Skyworth TV. “With the full suite of Opera TV solutions, we are able to strengthen our Smart TV offerings by delivering the best web content to our customers. The Opera TV Store fully supports HTML5 and helps us bring rich, quality online content to TVs.”
The Opera Devices SDK has been designed to give the autonomy for OEMs to customize their own user interfaces, as well as delivering the best performance in bringing web content to TVs. In addition, it not only features market-leading HTML5 web standards support, but also complies with emerging industry standards that specify a unified way to render and serve IPTV or hybrid broadcast/broadband services to TVs and TV-connected devices.
“The Opera Devices SDK, Opera TV Store, and Opera TV browser provide TV, set-top-box and media player manufacturers everything they need to bring the web to TV screens. We simplify the complexity by supporting a wide set of standards and creating a user-friendly interface for TV viewers,” says Aneesh Rajaram, Senior Vice-President for TV & Devices, Opera Software. “Opera’s TV products greatly shorten the time to market for OEMs. We are very proud to have Skyworth on board, giving millions of new viewers front-row access to popular internet content on their TVs. This also immensely extends the reach for brands and content publishers on the Opera TV Store.”
Opera’s TV solutions power the web experience on ten of millions of TV connected devices from more than 50 customers, including Altech, Bang & Olufsen, Loewe, Philips, Sharp, Sony, Samsung, Vestel and other top TV brands from China, including Changhong, Hisense, Konka, and TCL.
