Opera introduces AI Tab Commands to Opera One: using AI agentics to manage your tabs

Introducing Tab Commands: a new way of interacting with your tabs in Opera One using our built-in browser AI, Aria.

Oslo, Norway – March 26, 2025 – The Norwegian browser company, Opera [NASDAQ: OPRA], is adding AI Tab Commands to its flagship browser, Opera One. This marks the first time Opera is taking AI out of the chatbox and deploying it to help users manage their tabs. With AI Tab Commands, users can now use their natural language and have their browser organize their tabs. They can, for example, ask Aria, Opera’s browser AI, to close them or group them by topic – to name just two examples.

To get Aria to manage their tabs, users simply need to access the Opera browser Command Line through the Ctrl + / (Win) or CMD + / (Mac) shortcut and type a prompt related to their tabs. Aria will understand their natural language and perform the task. Alternatively, with 5 or more tabs open, they can right click a tab and select the “AI Tab Management” option from the drop-down menu. For example, users can tell Aria to “close all wikipedia tabs” or “group all my YouTube tabs” – then it will proceed to perform said tasks for them.

For the tab hoarders out there, this feature will come as a revelation. Let’s say you have over 70 tabs opened and amongst them you have wikipedia sites about your university research. To group them all, you no longer have to find them one by one. Instead, you can tell Aria to group them together. Having them in a one tab island, it’s way easier to continue work on your project.” said Joanna Czajka, product director at Opera.

Tab Commands were developed with privacy and security in mind: When using Tab Commands and asking Aria to e.g. organize their tabs, the AI only sends to the server the prompt a user provides (e.g., “close all my YouTube tabs”) – nothing else. All tab-related data remains on the user’s device and is processed locally in the browser.

After being the first one to introduce tabs 25 years ago, we are continuing to improve this core feature of the browser. Today, we’re, again, the first ones to introduce a comprehensive AI tab management feature in the browser. With this step, we keep pushing the border of what can be achieved with these new technologies in a web browser.” – added Czajka.

New AI features coming to Opera One, Opera GX and Opera Air

In addition to Tab Commands, Opera is also adding several features to Aria that were tested as part of the AI Feature Drops program. These include an improved Writing Mode within the browser’s Command Line, an upgrade to Aria’s answers’ quality when it comes to shopping, product research, cooking and recipe brainstorming, as well as gaming-related topics. Finally, the possibility to interact with Aria from a browser tab, not just from the sidebar chat or command line.
