Oslo, Norway – September 3, 2025 – Opera [NASDAQ: OPRA], the Norwegian company that pioneered browser tabs nearly 30 years ago, is once again redefining how people browse. With a new tab management system in Opera One for iOS, the company is bringing the power of desktop-style tab organization to mobile. This innovation tackles one of iOS users’ biggest frustrations – too many unruly tabs – making Opera One the most advanced mobile browser for iOS, surpassing Safari and Chrome in managing multiple tabs.
“We’re all excited about the launch of the new iPhones, but here we’re even more excited about fixing the tab issue on iOS,” said Jona Bolin, Product Manager of Opera One for iOS. “Some people say we’re too much into tab overload, and indeed we are – because we can control it,” he added.
The new tab management system in Opera One for iOS includes several innovative features:
- New Tab Layouts – Grid and List views: users can now customize their tab layout by choosing between two distinct views. The grid layout offers a balanced organization, allowing users to see several tabs at once with clear visual previews. The list layout optimizes for quantity, providing a compact view that makes hundreds of tabs feel less overwhelming. Users can switch between layouts by tapping the leftmost icon in the bottom bar of the tab gallery.
- Tab Grouping – Control the Tab Chaos: This option allows users to easily organize tabs into tidy, customizable groups for activities like planning a trip, managing work tasks, or comparing online purchases. To create a group, users can long-press a tab, select the desired tabs, and add them to a new, named, and color-coded group. This feature is also available on iPad, where it resembles the desktop Tab Islands in Opera One – giving users the best tab organization features on all Apple devices.
- Tab Search – Find any tab instantly: For users struggling to find a specific tab among many, a new search function has been added. A search icon in the tab gallery’s bottom bar allows users to quickly find any tab by typing a keyword related to its title or URL.
- Intuitive UI with easy swiping: The tab gallery interface has been redesigned for easier navigation. Users can now swipe between icons at the top of the screen to quickly access regular tabs, private mode, and synced tabs from other devices.

Additional Updates: Customize Menu & Aria AI
Beyond tab management, this update brings other significant improvements:
- Customization of the Menu: With this update Opera is also letting users configure the browser menu so they can organize it and choose which options to show up in it. This way, users can keep their most used features and settings at hand, making the browsing experience more customizable and tailored for each user.
- Easier Access to Aria AI: Opera’s built-in browser AI, Aria, now has a new, more convenient home in the middle of the bottom bar. This provides one-tap access to a free AI-powered by Opera’s own engine, which can select the best LLM for a user’s query. Additionally, the AI’s answers have been improved and provide more information when it comes to certain topics such as recipes, gaming or shopping.
This update builds on Opera’s three decades of innovation in browser development, introducing the first step in advanced tab management for iOS. While these improvements in Opera One for iOS give users the most sophisticated tab functionalities available today, it is the starting point of a longer development path.
