Opera Software, PalmPalm and Trolltech form Strategic Alliance for Asian Embedded Linux Market

Joint embedded development in the works

Seoul, South Korea – Sept. 25, 2000

Opera Software, PalmPalm Technology Inc., and Trolltech today announced the formation of a strategic alliance for the Asian wireless Linux market. The three companies will jointly develop “Linux Total Solution for WirelessInternet Appliance” for hardware manufacturers in the wireless Internet space.

Linux Total Solution for Wireless Internet Appliance consists of Opera’s “Opera for Linux” Web browser, Trolltech’s “Qt/Embedded,” an embedded GUI environment and windowing system, integrated with PalmPalm’s “Tynux,” a Linux Operating System optimized for the wireless Internet.

“We are pleased to work with Opera Software and PalmPalm to provide a complete embedded Linux solution for wireless Internet devices,” said Haavard Nord, CEO of Trolltech. “Our combined technologies provide a state-of-the-art software platform for both embedded consumer products and specialized vertical devices.”

The marketing effort in Asia of the Linux Total Solution for Wireless Internet Appliance is to be lead by PalmPalm.

“We will actively engage in aggressive worldwide marketing on the basis of our alliances with distinguished companies,” exclaimed Dr. Kerny Choe, CEO and President of PalmPalm Technology, and he further asserted, “We will strive for PalmPalm Technology to take the Number One-position in the worldwide Embedded Linux industry within the next two years.”

The advent of an integrated package will increase the time to market, quality, and cost effectiveness of wireless Internet Appliance manufacturers, as they will no longer need to buy major applications separately to make one appliance.

“The Opera Web browser combined with QT/Embedded and Tynux is an exciting product, and we have great expectations for this product. We are very happy to work with a local company such as PalmPalm in the Asian market,” says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software.
