Opera and Macromedia Join Forces to Improve User Experience on Devices

Macromedia to extend reach in embedded space via Opera

San Francisco, CA and Oslo, Norway – June 17, 2002

Macromedia, Inc. (NASDAQ:MACR) and Opera Software ASA today announced that Macromedia Flash Player will be available to licensees of Opera’s embedded browsers.

Opera will make Macromedia Flash Player available to consumer electronics manufacturers and software platform providers on a range of devices from wireless handhelds to set-top boxes, extending Macromedia’s reach into the embedded space. Opera has licensed Macromedia Flash Player for inclusion in Opera embedded editions for Linux and QNX operating systems. The agreement now makes it easier for licensees of Opera’s Embedded Browser to support Macromedia Flash Player with their devices and platforms, and unleashes the power of rich multimedia applications, services, and content on a broad range of web enabled devices.

Macromedia Flash MX combines sophisticated multimedia and powerful application development features to enable new content and services such as rich messaging and mobile business applications such as e-learning and productivity applications for a wide range of Internet enabled devices.
