Opera goes mainstream

Opera for Nokia 6600 now for all Series 60 smartphones

Oslo, Norway – October 27, 2003

After having been released on the new Nokia 6600, Opera Software today made available for download a new and improved browser that includes many of the enhancements made in the Nokia 6600 delivery for all other phones that are based on the Series 60 platform: Nokia 3650/7650/N-Gage. Opera 6.1 for Series 60 is much smaller than its predecessor and uses significantly less memory.

Series 60 is built upon Symbian OS, and is Nokia’s target platform for data-centric mobile phones, so-called smartphones. Series 60 phone owners can enjoy the full, open Internet in a meaningful way for the first time with Opera’s Small-Screen Rendering (SSR) technology that reformats Websites to fit on small screens.

“It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to share with our many users the progress we’ve been making in the smartphone space,” says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “Opera 6.1 for Series 60 offers an unparalleled Internet experience for a mobile device.”

Opera 6.1 for Symbian includes an array of new features and improvements that all contribute to making Opera even more compelling for surfing from smartphones. Apart from the smaller size and less memory usage, surfers can enjoy a new menu interface; improvements in SSR, especially in the handling of frames and numeric tables; along with several bugfixes.

Opera has also localized the S60 browser for the first time, the version is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese traditional and Chinese Simplified.
