Opera 8 is a PC World 2005 World Class Award Winner

Oslo, Norway – June 3, 2005

Opera Software today announced that it has received PC World’s 2005 World Class Award for its Opera Web browser. This accolade of excellence is based on Opera’s attractive and feature-rich Web browser product, Opera 8.

PC World selects products for this award based on exemplary design, features, performance, innovation and price. Hundreds of products were reviewed by PC World, and according to their announcement the most “revolutionary” products that “contribute to changing the world” were selected.

“Opera is honored to receive PC World’s 2005 World Class Award, as we strive to lead the browser industry in innovation and excellence,” says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “We are largely known for our innovative features, but Opera 8 also excels in its security offerings. We not only extend users as much functionality as possible but also a considerable degree of protection while online.”

Opera 8 was released on April 19, 2005, and was hailed by reviewers as “fast”, “flashy” and “still number one in browser innovation”. Known as a viable alternative to the market giant Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, Opera’s market share is growing. Current download figures for the newest version of the browser totaled over four million in the first four weeks of its release.
