Moving the Mobile-Internet age forward, Opera demos market-ready, cross-platform Web technology at Taipei’s Computex 2009

Taipei, Taiwan – May 19, 2009

Opera Software will showcase its latest industry-leading, cross-platform Web technology at Taipei’s Computex, from June 2-6, 2009. Opera will host an exhibit at stand N1201a, 4F, in the Nangang Exhibition Hall. Once inside Opera’s exhibit, visitors will experience market-ready, proven solutions that enable OEMs and chip-set manufacturers to stand out in this mobile Internet age.

With the Internet continually emerging on new device types, OEMs must meet the challenge to provide a PC-like Web experience on devices with hardware limitations. Opera Mobile and the Opera Devices SDK are proven solutions that enable a full Web 2.0 experience on nearly any device. This means that end users can access their favorite Web sites and applications, including Gmail, Flickr, Facebook and more, while on the go. In addition, the recently launched Opera Mobile 9.7 and Opera Devices SDK 9.7 feature Opera Turbo. This advanced compression technology enables fast browsing on low-end hardware by reducing memory and CPU usage.

“The Mobile Internet age has arrived. With the explosive growth of Opera Mini, we realize that end users expect full Web browsing on their mobile devices,” says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “Time-to-market and cost are two key factors that OEMs are faced with when they try to meet this Internet demand. Visitors to our exhibit at Computex will learn how our customers use Opera technology to deliver unique content and services quickly and cost-effectively.”

Opera has supported key processors and developed strong partnerships with silicon vendors. They include ARM (Freescale, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, etc.), MIPS (NXP, Sigma Design, etc.) and SH4 (ST Microelectronics), on x86. The Opera Devices SDK is continually pre-ported to new hardware architectures, reducing the time-to-market and development costs.
