Opera and Telkomsel spread the Web in Indonesia

Opera Mini now available to Telkomsel customers

Barcelona, Spain – February 17, 2010

Opera Software and Indonesia’s leading telecommunications operator, Telkomsel, today announced their strategic partnership to deliver Opera Mini to Indonesian subscribers. As Opera’s preferred partner in Indonesia, Telkomsel is able to deliver Opera Mini to their 82 million customers, helping Opera make significant progress in spreading the Web throughout the region.

Opera and Telkomsel will distribute a version of Opera Mini 5, optimized for Telkomsel subscribers. Opera Mini’s customization for Telkomsel includes changes to the toolbar, billing integration, home page-content and more. Telkomsel will also offer their customers a new Opera Mini data plan to make mobile browsing more cost efficient.

Opera Mini is already the best mobile browser for the budget conscious consumer, using its compression technology to reduce the amount of data transferred to the phone. Web-page compression also improves surfing speeds, helping Indonesian users search, surf and socialize even faster.

“Working with Telkomsel is a very significant step for Opera, as it gives us great headway into the Indonesian market. Telkomsel has always leaned on the side of innovation, being the first operator to bring 3G to Indonesian. Now it is once again taking the lead by giving its customers a faster and less costly way to browse the Web,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software.

Indonesia already represents one of Opera Mini’s largest user bases, ranking second in usage worldwide. The number of Opera Mini users from Indonesia continues to grow significantly each month, as the mobile browser enjoys immense popularity with Indonesians.

“Opera Mini has proven its popularity in Indonesia, and now we are making it even easier for people all around Indonesia to get the browser they love on their phones. We look forward to a long partnership with Opera, one in which we can continue to deliver new Opera innovations that make our customers’ lives easier,” said Sarwoto Atmosutarno, President Director of Telkomsel.

The companies plan to continue to develop the Opera Mini version for Telkomsel, and unique Opera Mini features will be made available to Telkomsel subscribers in the future.
