Oslo, Norway – March 23, 2010

Opera Software today announced that its Opera Devices SDK 10.15 for Linux was selected by Loewe, the premium European brand in-home entertainment. Opera will help Loewe fulfill its promise to deliver “innovation for the senses” by providing Web browsing, widgets and HbbTV implementation on Loewe connected TVs.

Opera for connected TVs is designed to serve as a one-stop shop for delivering superior content that is optimized for the television screen. Opera’s renowned speed, superior performance and steadfast devotion to Web standards have resulted in its best-in-breed status on connected TVs. Opera has maintained strong support of initiatives such as the Open IPTV Forum and HbbTV and has implemented these standards in order to help manufacturers create a better solution and improve time-to-market.

“We have made a promise to our customers to add value with every innovation, and today our customers are asking for connected TVs. Opera is a clear winner when it comes to adding value to connected TVs, using the Web to enable new content and services on Loewe devices,” said Bernd Weickert, R & D Director Software, Loewe. “For us, the ability to use Opera to create an HbbTV compliant solution was crucial, as this is now the emerging standard for creating the interactive types of entertainment that TV viewers want.”

“When a customer takes on the Opera for connected TVs solution, they get speed, unmatched performance and an innovative feature-set that results in a compelling TV experience. We are excited to be working with Loewe, a company with well-deserved industry recognition for its superior quality,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “Opera is well poised to exceed Loewe’s quality expectations, giving Loewe TV owners the best that Web technology has to offer.”
