Opera and ViXS bring Internet to more consumer devices

Las Vegas, USA – January 7, 2011

Opera Software today announced support for the ViXS platform providing Opera’s world-class browser to more connected home devices.

By porting Opera to the ViXS platform, applications built with web technology and standard cloud-based applications can easily be implemented on ViXS-powered devices. Opera delivers a full-featured and fast Internet experience, allowing developers and device manufacturers to incorporate the power of Opera into their devices. Users can enjoy the full Web 2.0 experience, e.g., YouTube, plus access content quickly and efficiently, independently of the main browser, by using Opera Widgets.

“Adding a browser to our processing engine sets a new benchmark for embedded multimedia systems,” said Sally Daub, President and Chief Executive Officer, ViXS Systems. “Consumers are demanding fast, safe and advanced products to provide them with choice of what content they want to consume on the device they wish to use to maximize their time online.”

ViXS” XCode 4210 is the first embedded media processor that provides all the necessary features and technologies to replicate the PC web-browsing experience in consumer electronics products. Prior to VIXS” system-on-chip (SOC) solution, the level of sophistication and concurrency on embedded devices lagged PC-based devices. The XCode 4210 has many key features that enrich the experience for platforms using embedded devices, including full HD advanced 3D graphics complying to the OpenGL-ES 2.0 model; support for full HD 3D TV including leading DTV and Blu-ray standards and advanced video post processing; and the ability to enable multiple multimedia processing tasks simultaneously. With ViXS supporting Opera Software on its XCode 4210 platform, consumer electronics manufacturers can build an increasing array of compelling applications on connected devices.

“Bringing the Opera browser to ViXS-powered devices can open up the potential for exciting new applications,” said Christen Krogh, Chief Development Officer, Opera Software. “The possibilities are staggering and limited only by imagination and the capacity of the appliances and the array of System-on-Chip platforms. This is why Opera continues to innovate and partner with companies such as ViXS to provide the best Internet user experience regardless of the device.”
