Opera to bring a faster mobile web to Latin America

America Movil partnership to connect millions to Opera Mini

Oslo, Norway, and Mexico City – June 5, 2012

Opera Software today announced that it has entered into a partnership with America Movil, the world’s third-largest mobile network provider, to bring the power of a faster mobile web to Latin America. Under this agreement, America Movil will bring a co-branded version of the Opera Mini mobile web browser to users across all its subsidiaries in Latin America.

America Movil operates in 18 countries in Latin America, serving more than 242 million users. Opera Mini is the world’s most popular mobile browser with more than 160 million users. With this collaboration, America Movil subscribers will be able to enjoy a fast, affordable and user-friendly mobile web experience on their favorite handsets.

A version of Opera Mini has already been available since September 2011 to subscribers of Claro Chile, America Movil’s subsidiary in Chile. A co-branded version of Opera Mini will slowly be rolled out in other Latin American markets where America Movil operates.

“Mobile users in Latin America, for many of whom the mobile device is the first and only way of getting online, are in need of a world-class browser as an affordable means to get on the internet,” said Marco Quatorze, Director of VAS, American Movil.

“Opera is proud to work with America Movil to bring Opera Mini to Latin America in a big way,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “With America Movil’s reach and Opera Mini’s performance, Latin America is about to go mobile like it has never before.”
