Opera Mini comes to Robi users in Bangladesh

Opera Software and Robi Axiata, the second-largest mobile operator in Bangladesh in terms of revenue, have signed an agreement to offer a co-branded Opera Mini web browser for Robi subscribers. Opera Mini is a cloud-based browser that compresses data by up to 90% and works on almost all kinds of mobile handsets.

Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Chief Operating Officer, Robi Axiata Limited, says, “For a large majority of our users, their mobile phone is the only way to access the web. The availability of affordable devices has fueled the usage of mobile internet and pushed the demand for better services. We always keep our customers at the center of our operations and align our services to meet the requirements of the changing industry. We plan to offer Opera Mini to our users to ensure they get a seamless browsing experience from their mobile devices.”

Opera Mini will enable Robi to provide a high-quality browsing experience across their device portfolio, while managing data delivery costs. In the co-branded version, Robi will get a unique opportunity to engage with Opera Mini users in a more personalized and non-intrusive manner, presenting its brand and services as an integrated part of the user experience.

“The growth of mobile internet users in Bangladesh is evident. Opera Mini empowers operators to deliver a fast, smooth mobile browsing experience that will keep users coming back,” says Sunil Kamath, Vice President for South Asia at Opera Software. “We are glad to associate with partners such as Robi, who share our commitment to enabling the best internet experience for users.”

Robi has more than 25 million mobile subscribers who stand to gain from this browser.

Bangladesh is an extremely unique market when it comes to web usage. According to latest statistics by the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC), more than 95% of all internet users in the country access the web using mobile devices.
