AI-powered Opera Mini browser lands on Andromax mobile devices

to keep Indonesian users updated with an advanced in-browser newsfeed

Further putting down its roots in Indonesia, Opera is announcing a strategic partnership with Andromax, one of the leading local 4G smartphone brands available for less than one million rupiahs. Through this partnership, the all new Andromax smartphone and 4G feature phones will be pre-installed with the Opera Mini browser. Both companies believe that the partnership will bring a smarter and better browsing experience to more Indonesians.

Opera has long recognized Indonesia as a potential market with its ever-growing number of internet users. According to data from the Tetra Pak Index 2017, there are currently 132 million internet users in Indonesia. Opera’s technology and Andromax maker Smartfren’s market penetration will complement each other in bringing a complete package of digitalization to reach more Indonesians.

“Working with Andromax is a very significant step for Opera, as it gives us new access to reach an even wider users in the Indonesian market. This partnership will also be a gateway to our 2018 strategy in Indonesia,” said Jorgen Arnesen, Global Head of Marketing & Distribution, Opera Software AS.

Arnesen added, “Currently, Indonesia is the second largest Opera mobile browser user base worldwide after India. In 2018, we are planning to develop our popular mobile browser, Opera Mini, in a way that it can better address the specific needs of the Indonesian market by providing hyperlocal and relevant content by leveraging our AI news engine.”

Indonesia is one of the first countries for Opera to roll out its artificially intelligent news engine. Partnered with 96 local publication websites, Opera’s AI news engine uses real-time intelligence ranking powered by machine learning (G.B.D.T. algorithm) and deep learning (D.N.N. deep neural network) to bring the latest and most insightful news to the user without any prior setup. The more the user engages with the newsfeed, the more in-tune the content becomes for the user within the “For You” section.

From year to year, Andromax has brought innovation for its users. As it grows bigger, Andromax has strengthened its vision by providing affordable smartphone and 4G feature phones so Indonesians can experience the 4G connection without boundaries, especially in price. This partnership is secured as a proof that both companies care for Indonesian users and wish to expand the digital reach in Indonesia.

“Opera Mini will give substantial benefits to our Andromax smartphone lineup as well as our feature phone users. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Opera, especially to equip our customers with an innovative browser, so they can utilize it to browse anything that can be useful and elevate their lives.” said Amit Sethi, Sub Group Head Device Planning, Management, & Technology Smartfren.
