Opera 6.01 for Series 60 Released
Oslo, Norway – June 25, 2003
Opera Software today released Opera 6.01 for Series 60. Nokia 7650 and 3650 owners can now upgrade their smartphones with Opera’s full Web experience. Opera now supports CSS2 media types, allowing Web authors to write style sheets targeted for handheld devices to make optimal use of the smartphone’s color screen. Today’s release also includes several bug fixes from the first version released on April 29, 2003.
Opera for Series 60 includes Opera’s breakthrough technology Small-Screen Rendering (SSR), a technology that reformats Web pages to fit on the smaller mobile screens.
“It’s with great pleasure we release a new version for Series 60,” says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software ASA. “Nokia smartphone owners can now get the latest browser technology on their phones — the same technology that is transforming the mobile industry.”
Since the announcement of SSR late last year, Opera’s Smartphone Edition has had great success in the marketplace. Key players in the industry have already signed up to include Opera’s full Web browser on their smartphones. New partners among handheld manufacturers include SonyEricsson and Kyocera. Opera has also started working closely with several operators, a partnership with Optimus in Portugal has already been announced.
“The ability to offer full Internet on phones has been received with great enthusiasm in the world of telecommunications,” says Rolf Assev, executive vice president marketing and strategic alliances. “Users will now finally have access to the full Internet in the same way they are used to from their PCs, boosting data usage.”
