Opera Coming to the Mac

Opera 5 for Mac, Technology Preview 1 to be released on Thursday

OSLO, Norway – Feb. 20, 2001

Opera Software will release the first public technology preview (TP) of its Web browser for the Macintosh platform on Thursday Feb. 22, 2001. A TP is the term used for an alpha-release of the Opera Web browser. The release will be available for all Power PC Mac’s running MacOS 7.5 or later. Systems prior to 8.0 will require installation of appearance manager available for download from Apple.

After the development of the Power PC version, the 68K version will follow, with an OS X version at the end.

Earlier this month Opera announced that also the Macintosh version of its popular Web browser also would be available in a free, ad-supported version in the final release.

From Thursday, Opera 5 for Mac TP 1 can be downloaded from Opera Software’s Website.
