Opera Upgrade for Symbian

Opera 5.14 for Symbian OS released

London, UK and Oslo, Norway – Apr. 23, 2002

Today, at the Symbian Developer Expo in London, Opera Software ASA released Opera 5.14 for Symbian OS. The release includes minor fixes to the Web browser edition that was chosen as the default browser for Symbian Ltd.’s reference designs in May of 2001.

Since then, Nokia has also chosen to include an adapted version of the Opera for Symbian OS on its Nokia 9210i Communicator, released at CeBIT this year.

“The Opera browser complements the flexibility of the Symbian OS with its extreme speed, small size and many user-friendly features,” says Lars Boilesen, VP of Embedded Products, Opera Software ASA. “It’s great to see the rapid development pace of the browser, ensuring the continually best Internet experience on any Symbian OS device for our partners.”

Opera 5.14 for Symbian OS is superfast, only a 3 MB download and extremely secure. Users can enjoy popular Opera features such as the ability to toggle images off and on for faster page loading, or navigate entirely with simple keyboard shortcuts. This updated version includes improved JavaScript support and bugfixes in the cookie confirmation dialog box.

“As the latest rave reviews for Opera on the Nokia 9210i Communicator and on the Sharp Zaurus show, Opera has become the leading embedded browser developer,” says Lars Boilesen, VP of Embedded Products, Opera Software ASA. “With this release, our many loyal Opera for Psion users can upgrade their Internet experience as well.”

Opera 5.14 for Symbian OS can be downloaded at www.opera.com. Users who have registered and paid for Opera 5.x for Symbian OS, are entitled to a free upgrade to Opera 5.14 for Symbian OS.

The Opera 5.14 for Symbian OS can be downloaded to the following machines: Psion Series 5mx, Psion Revo, Psion netBook, Oregon Osaris. Please note that it is not possible to download Opera 5.14 for Symbian OS onto the Nokia 9210 Communicator.
