DiGiLive Web Pass and DiGi Facebook USSD services to help drive mobile internet
Oslo, Norway, and Shah Alam, Malaysia – November 19, 2012
DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (“DiGi”) continues to drive higher mobile internet penetration with the unveiling of the new DiGiLive Web Pass, a new mobile internet offering accessed via the Opera Mini browser and the Facebook USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) service.
Available since September 2012, DiGiLive Web Pass targets casual Facebook users who seek flexible options for accessing their accounts on their mobile devices. Customers can choose from four different packages – 1-Day Internet, 1-Hour Internet, 1-Day Facebook and 1-Hour Facebook – depending on their browsing needs.
The DiGi Facebook USSD is an interactive service that allows non-smartphone owners to access Facebook from their mobile phones without requiring any data or internet connection. This latest service was made available on October 16, 2012.
Praveen Rajan, Head of Products for Internet for DiGi, explains, “Social-networking sites like Facebook are increasingly popular among Malaysians, and it only makes sense that DiGi, as a strong advocate of delivering internet for all, makes it as easy as possible for over 13 million Facebook users in Malaysia to use it on their mobile phones.
“Our primary strategy has been to ensure customers have a positive and good mobile internet experience regardless of which mobile platform or mobile phone they are using. Customers now have more affordable options to choose from with the introduction of our latest service offerings. Response has been very encouraging since the soft launches of both services, and we are confident that we are on the right track to encourage more people to embrace the convenience these services have to offer.”
Lars Boilesen, CEO for Opera Software, adds, “We are happy with the rate at which our user base is growing in Malaysia through DiGi, which has grown to more than 200%, since we first announced our collaboration last year. DiGi’s ongoing efforts to develop relevant content for its customers to browse through Opera Mini are commendable, and we look forward to building on our relationship to create an even better mobile surfing experience.”
DiGiLive Web Pass empowers DiGi customers to have better financial control over internet charges when accessing Facebook via the Opera Mini browser. The packages can be subscribed to for as low as RM0.50 for 1 Hour Facebook and RM1.00 for 1 Day Facebook. Once the browser is launched, subscribers can simply visit digilive.my/pass and choose their preferred Web Pass package.
The DiGi Facebook USSD service caters to customers who still own basic phones but are keen Facebook users. This service makes it easier for users to read the latest happenings in their friends” lives and update their status easily – all without the need for any internet connection. Customers only need to pay RM1.50 per week, and they will also enjoy a 7-day trial with their first subscription. To subscribe, DiGi Facebook users can simply dial “*325#”.
