Opera and Entel Chile partner to bring the mobile web to millions

Oslo, Norway – November 29, 2012

Opera Software today announced the rollout of a customized version of its Opera Mini browser to Entel Chile subscribers, in association with Opera’s worldwide partner Vodafone, giving users in Chile the power of the internet at their fingertips at a very low cost.

Opera Mini is one of the most used mobile browsers with more than 190 million users worldwide. Opera is now extending its already-existing relationship with Entel Chile with a strong focus on bringing the power of the internet to Entel’s 10 million subscribers in Chile. Entel Chile subscribers will now be able to take advantage of Opera Mini’s speed and its compression technology, which saves users up to 90% of data costs.

Opera Mini users on Entel Chile’s service will automatically get the latest version of Opera Mini with Smart Page, which will give users quick access to Entel Chile’s data plans and other services. The Smart Page will become the hub of users” social life, bringing their latest updates from Facebook, Twitter and other news sources at a fraction of the cost. Entel Chile subscribers who are new to Opera Mini can download the customized version by typing m.opera.com on their device’s current web browser.

“Chile has one of the largest mobile penetrations in Latin America but mobile broadband is still for the privileged few,” says Maria Ines Herrero, Deputy Manager of Development and Innovation, Entel Chile. “We are proud to partner with Opera Mini to ensure our customers get value for money as they browse the mobile internet to get to the information they need, because, for many Chileans, the mobile device is their gateway to the internet.”

“Opera’s goal is to give the best possible user experience on any device and any network,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “Designed for speed and ease of use, Opera Mini provides insanely fast browsing on both 2G and 3G networks. Giving this capability to Entel Chile users is very exciting for us.”

Opera’s partnership with Entel Chile is part of Opera’s larger agreement with Vodafone, which extends to other markets where Vodafone has partnerships.
