Hisense and Opera extend partnership bringing the world of apps to TV viewers
Opera Software and Hisense, the world’s leading LED TV provider, have announced that the Opera TV Store has now launched on selected models of Hisense Smart TVs, extending the partnership between Opera and Hisense and bringing exciting new apps to TV viewers.
Hisense, which is already using the Opera Devices Software Development Kit to power their entertainment portal, is introducing the Opera TV Store app platform to offer audiences a rich selection of entertaining HTML5-based apps optimized for connected TV. This spans apps for video, music, social media, games, news and utilities.
Viewers can discover the Opera TV Store on Hisense’s K610, XT780, XT880, K366 and K610 Smart TV models.
“Opera and Hisense have built a rewarding partnership. We evaluated many options when we decided to offer apps to our TV customers, and chose Opera as it has proven to be the simplest and fastest way to bring apps to TV,” said Charlie Wang, Vice President of Hisense Group. “We are excited to extend our collaboration to include the Opera TV Store and take our Smart TV experience to a new level.”
“By making it seamless to run the Opera TV Store on our browser, Opera has engineered a turn-key product that lowers the entry barrier for OEMs to launch app stores on their TV products,” says Aneesh Rajaram, Senior Vice-President for TV & Devices, Opera Software. “With more and more content owners flocking to HTML5 to enable their TV-screen propositions, Hisense viewers can now have an even more entertaining and personalized TV experience.”
The Opera TV Store is already available on Smart TVs and Blu-ray Disc players from Sony and TCL, and is coming soon to TVs, Blu-ray Disc players and set-top boxes from several other manufacturers.
The Opera ecosystem is more than just the Opera TV Store, with the Opera Devices SDK and Opera browser powering the web on tens of millions of devices, including Sony, Samsung, Philips, TCL, Humax, Sharp, Loewe, Boxee, Hisense, Freesat+, Vestel and Altech.
