Opera GX the First to Combine Volume Booster, Audio Equalizer in New Browser Booster Update

Advanced audio controls and improved Split Screen let users optimize their listening experience across tabs for whatever they’re watching, listening to, or playing

OSLO, Norway – 29 October 2026 – Opera GX, the gaming browser, is releasing a new Browser Booster that gives users more control over how they stream content online. GX becomes the first browser to combine a built-in Volume Booster, which amplifies content up to 500%, with an Audio Equalizer that comes with 8 presets that allow users to tailor sound to whatever they’re listening to. The features work independently on each individual tab – particularly convenient if users have 2-4 tabs open on the same screen via improved Split Screen functionality. A final piece of the upgrade package, Search in Tabs gives users a quick, intuitive solution to find tabs – whether open or recently closed – without manually combing through the entire stack.

Browsers have become one of the go-to ways for people to watch a show, listen to a podcast or jump on a call, and more often than not, actually hearing what’s being said is the hard part. More than half of Americans say they keep subtitles on because the audio is too hard to understand. The fix has traditionally come down to the quality of the volume settings or speakers on the device, not the browser itself.

In an industry first, Opera GX now comes with built-in sound controls to adjust the audio for each tab directly from their browser, rather than through their device or via extensions. GX’s new Volume Booster lets users push an individual tab’s volume up to 500% past its normal ceiling or bring it down to zero, with a quick snap back to 100% whenever they want to reset. Also working tab by tab, the Audio Equalizer gives users eight audio presets that cover a range of common listening situations, such as Voice, Music, and Movie. Opera GX remembers the settings used last and automatically brings them back the next time audio starts playing in that tab.

Coupled with improved Split Screen capabilities – still in Early Bird – multitasking gamers can view four tabs at once on the same screen, each with its own audio settings. Simplified and more intuitive, to create a Split Screen GX users just need to drag a tab inside the browser window. Clear animated anchors will appear to illustrate where users can drop the tab to create a split screen – no guesswork required, just a clear visualization of how to create the desired view.

“People don’t just do one thing in their browser anymore: they’re watching, listening, and playing all at once, and the sound should keep up with whatever they’re doing,” said Maciej Kocemba, Director of Product at Opera GX. “Now people can shape how each tab actually sounds and see more of what they’re working on at the same time, instead of juggling windows or turning things up and hoping for the best.”

A final piece of the update package is reworked Search in Tabs, which allows users to find any tab across all windows, Workspaces, and Tab Islands by typing its title, its URL, or something related to the content on the page. Recently closed tabs can also be restored, which reopen with their full browsing history inside.

The Volume Booster, Audio Equalizer, and Search in Tabs are now available on Opera GX across Windows, Mac and Linux, with the audio controls appearing in the tab tooltip the next time something starts playing. The expanded Split Screen is rolling out first through Opera GX’s Early Bird build, with a wider release to follow.
