Opera 5.12 for OS/2 Released

Oslo, Norway – Sept. 4, 2002

Opera Software releases Opera 5.12 for OS/2 today after extensive beta testing. Stability issues from the previous versions have been fixed, namely INI file corruption from starting a second copy of Opera, background problems with GIFs, and running Win32 plugins.

OS/2 is one of IBM’s platforms for large businesses and corporations. OS/2 has been estimated to comprise of as many as ten million users. Most of these customers can be found among large corporations, particularly in the banking, financial services, health care, and insurance industries that have significant investments in IBM hardware and software.

“We are pleased to offer Opera 5.12 for OS/2 after such an eagerly anticipated wait,” says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO of Opera Software. “All the bugs from previous versions have been fixed, and we look forward to moving ahead with Opera 7 for OS/2 in the near future.”

Opera 5.12 for OS/2 is also the first version that can be registered so that users can remove the banner ad.

The single self-installing download file requires no other software and works with OS/2 WPS drag and drop. Printing is supported, as well as Java 1.3 applets and native plugins.
