Rock bands rock Opera party

Product launch gone wild

Oslo, Norway – Rocktober 12, 2007

Opera today released details of its rumored product launch party, to be held at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco, California on October 25, 2007. What will be unveiled remains a mystery, but helping Opera with the unveiling will be two of the hottest indie bands in the United States: The 88 and The Binges. A limited number of spots on the guest list are available absolutely free. Visit rock.opera.com to learn how you can get the chance to rock out with The 88, The Binges and Opera.

The 88 join the party straight from the studio, where they have been recording their as-yet-untitled follow-up album to “Over and Over”, which is set for a 2008 release. Hailing from Los Angeles, The 88 are masters of the three-and-a-half minute pop song. Responsible for the infectious sounds are Keith Slettedahl, Adam Merrin, Todd O’Keefe and Anthony Zimmitti. If you want to catch one of the fastest rising bands in the U.S., visit my.opera.com/the88 to get plugged in.

“We’re looking forward to coming to San Francisco to play some of our new songs for this exciting event,” said keyboard player Adam Merrin of The 88.

The Binges, also from Los Angeles, are the future of old school rock and roll. Combining the talents of Dylan Squatcho, Mayuko Okai, Tsuzumi Okai and Travis “Skanky” Smith, The Binges bring amplitude and instrument-shredding skills to a set of sing-a-long rock tracks that stick in your head for days. “We can’t wait to come rock the ‘Rock Bands Rock Opera’ launch party at the Rickshaw Stop,” said Travis “Skanky” Smith, drummer for The Binges.

According to Kii Arens, manager for The Binges: “Opera is putting together a fantastic event and all of The Binges are really excited to be a part of it!”

Worldwide simulcast

The concert will be streamed around the world live on my.opera.com, Opera’s very own online social network with blogs, photo albums and much more. No matter where any of Opera’s millions of fans are, they will be able to take part in and enjoy this event.

“We really want to give something back to the community; they’re the whole reason we are here,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera. “We’re lucky to be able to showcase The 88 and The Binges. They embody everything that Opera values: working hard, delivering an unforgettable experience, and being the best at what you do. They’re going to give you a great show and we’re going to give you the world’s best browser. It’s important to stick to what you’re best at: you don’t want me to whip out my Les Paul.”

Important notices and caveats

All entrants and attendees must be 21 years or older. All attendees must be ready to rock with The 88, The Binges, and Opera. Be warned: Jon von Tetzchner stands an imposing 6’4”, so watch out if you meet him in the mosh pit.
