Opera and TIM announce partnership in Brazil

TIM will be first operator to offer Opera Mini browser pre-installed in Brazil

Oslo, Norway – April 3, 2009

Opera Software today announced that TIM Brazil will pre-install the Opera Mini browser for mobile phones on the Samsung T-459 (Scrapy). This model, equipped with Opera Mini for TIM Internet, will be available to all TIM subscribers and marks Opera Mini’s official operator debut in Brazil.

TIM is the first mobile phone operator to provide nationwide coverage. TIM has seen steady subscriber growth over the past years due in part to strategy and focus on using the mobile Web as a platform for value-added services.

With more than 35 million customers, TIM takes Opera Mini into the Brazilian mainstream. According to IE Market research, wireless penetration is projected to reach over 92 percent by 2010. With millions connected, TIM sees the Internet as an integral part of the mobile future.

“This partnership offers the experience of easy Internet access in Scrapy with Opera Mini. We are working very hard on the development of new advantages for our customers”, said Rogerio Takayanagi, Chief Marketing Officer of TIM Brazil.

“The launch of Opera Mini on the Samsung Scrapy (T-459) is the first step in what we predict to be a long and powerful partnership with TIM Brazil,” said Rod Hamlin, VP Sales and Marketing, Americas, Opera Software. “We are excited to expand in Brazil, a country of seasoned mobile phone users who are ready and waiting for a revolutionary way to access the mobile Web.”

Although this is the first time Opera Mini has been offered by an operator, Opera Mini already enjoys a groundswell of consumer support. Over the past year, the number of consumers using Opera Mini in Brazil grew more than 117% (source: http://www.opera.com/smw/2009/01/). Partnering with TIM Brazil provides even more advantages for consumers seeking the ultimate in mobile Web browsing.
