September 7, 2009 – Oslo, Norway

Opera Software today announced that the Russian mobile carrier MegaFon has selected Opera Mini to deliver unlimited Web access to its subscribers in Moscow. Russia currently holds the title for the most Opera Mini users in the world. Over the past year, the number of people using Opera Mini in Russia has increased by more than 63 percent (source). The Opera and MegaFon partnership will help make the mobile Web more easily accessible to all Russians.

With Opera Mini for MegaFon, subscribers can activate the new “Unlimited Internet with Opera Mini” service package. This offer will be available to customers in September for just seven RUR a day (0,15 EUR) and allows users to transmit and receive an unlimited amount of data on their phones.

“More than half of our subscribers use mobile Internet services. The future of our business depends on our ability to offer the best possible Web package, as our customers want to access the Web anytime, anywhere,” said Vasily Kuzichev, Director of Business Development, MegaFon. “Opera Mini is very well known in Russia, and the browser has a proven track record across the country. By partnering with Opera, we expect to see continued growth in our subscriber base due to the country-wide appeal of this browser.”

Due to its unique compression technology, Opera Mini will speedily send Web content to MegaFon subscribers. Page-loading time is even faster than ever, due to Opera’s new server parks spread around the world. Opera Mini was designed with browsing convenience in mind and delivers quick navigation features such as Bookmarks, Notes and Speed Dial for easy access to Web favorites. In addition, Opera Link allows users to sync their notes between their computer and Opera Mini.

“With more than 45 million subscribers, MegaFon helps get Opera Mini in the hands of more Russians. We have developed this special edition of Opera Mini for MegaFon as the first step in our partnership,” said Nuno Sitima, Vice President for Business Development, Opera Software. “Now MegaFon subscribers can easily visit all their Web favorites without worrying about their monthly mobile phone bills.”
