Opera to showcase revenue-generating Web solutions at NAB 2010

Mountain View, CA, USA – April 9, 2010

Opera Software, the only cross-platform browser company, will exhibit its latest standards-based Web solutions during NAB, April 12 – 15, 2010, in Las Vegas.

The focus of this year’s show will be on demonstrating how Web technologies and Web standards can help companies across the connected device ecosystem – cable operators, device manufacturers, content delivery companies – quickly and easily deliver valued-added content and services across their network or portfolio of devices.

Opera SDKs and turn-key Web solutions are open and flexible development platforms based on the same underlying core technology that runs Opera on the desktop, TVs, set-top boxes, and mobile phones. They are based on Web-standards and include tools, that when combined with the core browser engine and feature set, can help deliver compelling products, such as user interfaces, widgets and application environments, on any device. All Opera SDK and turn-key solutions are compliant with many of today’s leading standards for connected devices, such as HTML 5, HbbTV, OIPF, Canvas and W3C Widgets.

In addition, due to the Opera SDK’s cross-platform technology, companies are able to future-proof their investment. Web-based solutions are interoperable and can be leveraged across devices and platforms. They also allow for seamless integration of new functionality and features, as well as cutting costs and time-to-market.

At NAB, Opera will be demonstrating its latest SDK and turn-key solutions – Opera Devices SDK 10.30 for Linux and Opera Mobile 10 for WinCE – as well as other standards-based solutions for game consoles, media players, mobile phones and more.

Opera Mobile 10 for WinCE

This feature-rich, full Web browser is based on the same user interface (UI) recently released for Opera Mobile and Opera Mini. As a part of Opera’s strategy to unify the look and feel of its browser products, Opera Mobile 10 for WinCE gives customers a market-ready solution that delivers the power of Web technology to nearly any device.

Opera Devices SDK 10.30 for Linux

As a robust, open platform for creating Web-standards-based solutions, Opera Devices SDK forms the ideal foundation not only for developing full Web browsers and user interfaces, but also for generating connected TV solutions that combine widgets and full Web browsing with emerging standards for making TV interactive, such as HbbTV, OIPF and Canvas.

What we say

“The connected home industry’s evolution has created a demand for toolkits that can handle next generation IPTV and hybrid broadcast/broadband services on any TV screen or other media device,” explains Roy Satterthwaite, Senior Vice President, Americas, for Opera Software. “Opera Devices SDK for Linux and WinCE turn-key solutions are just the kind of comprehensive clients that are needed to help customers harness the power of Web technology to delivery content and services that generate new streams of revenue today and in the future.”
