Washington Post app makes news in Opera TV Store

PostTV now live in Opera’s app platform for Smart TV

Leading U.S. newspaper The Washington Post is expanding its online video reach by launching “PostTV” on Opera Software’s app platform for Smart TV. PostTV, the online home for Washington Post video, is making a new home in the Opera TV Store thanks to Opera TV Snap, a technology that turns online video channels into ready-to-run TV applications within minutes.

PostTV app in Opera TV Store

The PostTV initiative features short-form videos from the Pulitzer Prize-winning newsroom of The Washington Post. Opera TV Store viewers can follow the latest U.S. and international news via PostTV’s coverage, which includes political insights, business, entertainment and sports content.

Opera TV Snap equips publishers of online video to reach new audiences on millions of Smart TV devices – with no cost, no cumbersome development, and in almost no time. Its apps join hundreds more in the Opera TV Store for Smart TVs, set-top boxes and Blu-ray Disc players from leading pay-TV operators and manufacturers including Sony, Samsung and TiVo. Opera TV Snap’s industry-first portal takes content owners through the entire process of app development, monetization and distribution.

”We’re excited to partner with Opera TV to expand PostTV’s exposure to the universe of connected devices, a growing ecosystem with enormous potential for news producers and consumers,” said Steve Schiffman, General Manager of Video at The Washington Post.

“The Opera TV Store seeks to bring a variety of high-quality apps and on-demand video content to armchairs across the globe, including top news and current affairs,” said Michael Winneker, Senior Manager of Content Acquisition for TV & Devices, Opera Software. “We are excited to bring such a leading, prestigious news outlet as The Washington Post to the store and that we made it possible for them with the Opera TV Snap innovation.”

Content publishers can use Opera TV Snap to transform their online video channel into a TV app by clicking “Get started” on opera.com/tvsnap/. Simply add the details for your Media RSS (MRSS) or HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) channel, or other online video platform. Your TV app will be generated in under a minute, and ready to submit for moderation.
