Watch more football, spend less money

New data-savings app for Android, Opera Max, now live in Brazil

Just in time for things heating up in the world’s biggest football championship, Opera Max, a data-saving app for Android that shrinks videos, photos and compresses almost any app on your phone,  is landing in Brazil to save your online video replay.

Thanks to video compression technology, Opera Max extends the life of your data plan by up to 50%, which means that, from now on, Brazilian users no longer have to worry about exceeding their data plans before the end of the month. For users with pre-paid data plans, paying per megabyte of use, or roaming internationally, this app adds even more value.

With Opera Max’s unique video compression, users of video- and image-heavy apps can also enjoy a better user experience, without buffering and long loading times. For those moments when you just have to relive your favorite team’s goal, Opera Max will help you get through the congested airwaves of a busy mobile network.

“Opera Max has arrived in Brazil at the best time possible. With the world championship taking place in the country, users are consuming more video than ever to watch their favorite team’s plays and goals,” says Sergey Lossev, Head of Opera Max at Opera Software. “Thanks to Opera Max compression, Brazilian users will now be able to watch more videos, for the same price.”

How it works

From the moment a user installs Opera Max, the app starts rerouting all data traffic on the mobile device to the Opera data-savings cloud, using a virtual private network (VPN). All non-encrypted data requests (excluding websites and apps with HTTPS connections) are sent through Opera Software’s compression servers, which optimize video, images and websites to use less data.

Through Opera Max’s timeline of app usage and savings, users can get an overview of the data they have consumed and saved, on a daily and monthly basis. Opera Max also detects when users are roaming and allows them to tame their apps, preventing the apps from using expensive data. Users can even block particular apps from using mobile data and restrict them to using Wi-Fi only.

Opera Max is available as a free download on Google Play for smartphones running Android 4.0 or above. Download it today and start saving data!
