Opera powers the Web on KDDI’s autumn/winter series

Oslo, Norway and Tokyo, Japan – October 24, 2007

Opera Software, the only company that puts the Web on any device, and KDDI, Japan’s leading 3G operator, today announced that the Opera Mobile browser will be shipped as the “PC Site Viewer” on seven new mobile phones in KDDI’s featured 2007 autumn/winter series.

Opera’s continued partnership with KDDI has produced 59 handsets (including this autumn/winter series and “au INFOBAR2”) with Opera Mobile powering the full Web. KDDI’s autumn/winter series will provide a full-featured Web browsing experience on new and enhanced handset models based on the BREW platform.

New to the KDDI autumn/winter series is a featured “au one” KDDI portal as the start page in the Opera Mobile. The portal will provide users with quick access to KDDI’s useful services.

“Opera is the best application for full Web browsing from handsets,” says Takashi Nagashima, General Manager, Consumer Service & Product Planning Division, KDDI. “Our customers seek additional engagement with the Web from their phones. Opera Mobile is a full Web technology platform that delivers a complete, PC-like browsing experience.”

Opera Mobile enables users of the KDDI autumn/winter series handsets to access any Web site by using Opera’s unique Small-Screen Rendering (SSR) technology to tailor Web pages for mobile phone screens. With features like tabbed-browsing, Opera Mobile provides a user-friendly experience.

“A full Web browser on your phone gives users the power to reach their own online content and communication tools from wherever they are,” says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “Our continued work with KDDI proves to be exciting and inviting more users in the Japanese market.”

The Opera Mobile browser will be included on the following BREW-based devices for KDDI’s autumn/fall series:

  • Hitachi W53H
  • Kyocera W53K
  • au INFOBAR 2
  • Toshiba W55T
  • Toshiba W56T (with au one Gadgets)
  • Sony Ericsson W54S (with au one Gadgets)
  • Sanyo W54SA (with au one Gadgets)
