Opera and Funcom Creating Anarchy on the Web

Anarchy online browser composed on Opera

Oslo, Norway – June 27, 2001

Funcom today unleashed its popular game Anarchy with its own browser created on the Opera Composer from Opera Software. The Opera Composer, also released today at PCExpo in NY, lets users create their own browser and download it for free from the Internet.

The release of Anarchy Online on June 27 marks a milestone on the massive multi-player online gaming arena. Not only is Anarchy Online the first online world in a science fiction setting, the game also promises exceptional graphics and a gaming world that gives the phrase “dynamic gaming environment” a brand new meaning.

“We are always looking for ways to give our users a complete online gaming experience. With all our customers spending a lot of time online, we wanted to give them ability to use the Anarchy Online image and design on their desktop as well,” says VP of Marketing Tomas Schreiner at Funcom.

Anarchy Online is the first massive multi-player online role-playing game in a science fiction setting and already gained the popularity of thousands of fans worldwide. This game can only be played online and users will need to pay a monthly subscription fee in order to access the game. Players will encounter a thriving, constantly developing, 3D online world with thousands of other players connected at the same time.

“This is a great example of how the Opera Composer can be used by companies or individuals to express themselves in their Web browser,” says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO of Opera Software. “We hope that many more will follow Funcom’s example and explore their creativity on the Web.”
