- Users can capture snaps from the web and personalize them with Opera’s original emoticon collection
- New media player removes the need for third-party players
- Millions will get new Android devices during holiday season and Opera gives them more reasons to become their new browser
Oslo, Norway Dec. 7, 2020 – Today, Opera is releasing the new version of its flagship browser for Android. Version 61 of the Opera browser for Android introduces WebSnap, a feature that allows users to capture snapshots and make them more fun and easy to share with others through the browser. The new version of the Opera browser for Android also introduces a new media player so users can play any video or audio file in the browser without downloading third-party apps onto their Android devices.
WebSnap was first introduced in the Opera browser for PC and Mac. It allows users to capture snapshots from the web and add a touch of creativity and personalization in every snap with a series of editing tools and Opera’s unique emoticon collection.
“People capture snapshots from the web to keep important information or to share with others.” said Stefan Stjernelund, Product Director for Opera for Android. “Whether people are capturing receipts, wish lists, or just images for fun, they can now make their snapshots more personal and fun in a unique way.”
Users can get as creative as they want with WebSnap. They can blur images, add text and colors, or simply share a full snapshot with others directly from the browser through the standard share functionality.
New media player removes the need for third-party players
The new media player in the Opera browser for Android allows users to play all kinds of audio and video files in the browser, providing them with a smooth media experience and removing the need for third-party players.
“People download large amounts of files from websites everyday,” said Stjernelund. “The Opera browser gives users a media player that supports HTML5 files embedded on websites as well as downloaded files, so users don’t need to worry anymore about switching between apps or downloading third-party players to watch or listen to the media they love.”
The new media player also includes Play Queue support so users can watch or listen to media files in the order they like, adding utility to the download manager in a way not possible with third-party players. Users can also browse while watching videos or listening to audio files at the same time as the media player supports picture-in-picture mode.
The new media player in the Opera browser for Android comes with a sleek user interface packed with controls for a more personalized media experience. The media player’s menu gives users the option to adjust playback speeds and video quality, if supported by the media. Users can also enable closed captions and select between seven different languages – English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Swedish and Turkish.
The best browser for those getting Android devices this holiday season
The Opera browser for Android offers more features than the regular browsers preinstalled on Android devices. It comes with a free VPN, an easy-to-use Crypto Wallet, Sync and Flow for connecting with the Opera browser for PC and Mac, and an improved Ad Blocker for a browsing experience free of ads.
“Android smartphones and tablets are popular gifts during the holiday season. This year, those receiving new Android devices can choose to install a new and powerful browser with superior features, rather than just using the ones that come preinstalled on their devices. Opera is simply the cherry on the cake for them,” said Stjernelund.
The Opera browser for Android is designed and built in Europe, and is an all-in-one alternative for users who love Android smartphones and tablets. The Opera browser for Android recently received more than 100 feature updates, becoming the most powerful mobile browser available for free in the Google Play Store. It has registered more than three million reviews in Google Play with an average 4.6 star rating.
