Opera 6.04 for Windows Released

New stronger Opera version amid download success

Oslo, Norway — July 1, 2002

Opera Software today released the latest update to its desktop flagship, Opera 6.04 for Windows. Opera for Windows continues as Opera’s most popular distribution with over 12 million worldwide downloads and installations, averaging over one million installations every month.

The new version fixes a number of reported bugs, especially for Asian users.

“At Opera, we focus on delivering the best Internet experience available. We listen to our users, partners and customers and include the productivity, security, accessibility, and customization features that they need and other browsers fail to deliver,” says Dean Kakridas, vice president desktop products. “The tech savvy user group has clearly adopted Opera as their Web browser of choice and has been instrumental in helping us build a better product. With a newly created local country sales and distribution network and some significant distribution initiatives, Opera is advancing in the corporate, educational and government markets where we expect to make huge strides over the second half this year.”

Apart from the continual development of the browser, Opera Software’s desktop group is also getting ready to launch a premium Webmail service within the next few months, an extension over the revamped free Operamail service. Operamail’s premium service will provide everything needed for the advanced Webmail user at a reasonable price.
