Opera Mobile 10 powers MediaTek feature phones

Opera Software today announced Opera Mobile 10, its full-feature mobile browser”, has landed on on MediaTek’s platform. MediaTek Inc., a leading semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions, has chosen Opera Mobile to power its feature phones. Starting from now, MediaTek’s new chip solutions for 2.75G and 3G feature phones will be shipped with Opera Mobile 10.

Opera Mobile has been recognized as providing the best Web experience on smartphones. Features such as Speed Dial, tabs, password manager, Opera Link and a pop-up blocker make a desktop-like web experience on feature phones a reality. Opera Mobile 10 also allows users to surf efficiently on a slow, congested network. Users have the flexibility to enable Opera Turbo, the Opera compression technology, to load webpages much more quickly than other mobile phone browsers. Now, Opera Mobile comes to feature phones powered by MediaTek’s new chip solutions, which allows feature phones to provide the same powerful web-browsing capability as smartphones.

Opera Mobile 10 is based on the same browser engine as Opera for desktop. It runs directly on MediaTek’s platform, using the phone’s hardware to download and display webpages. In addition, Opera Mobile fully enables advanced Web 2.0 technology, such as AJAX, enabling a more interactive browsing experience.
